The Contractors

Kevin Griffin has taken on a contract to work in the Democratic Republic of Congo on a 6 weekly basis and will be leaving for his first stint in two weeks time.....their loss...... is our gain !

Julian Staddon continues his monthly contracted stints on the oil rigs off Egypt and should be back in town around the end of May 2008.

Roger Young is doing everything but work on St Helena Island judging from the photos of fishing and tales of golf (or should that be the other way round!!). His 3 month tour of duty ends at the end of May.

Mally Brooks has headed north for 6 months to Jersey to fund his luxurious Cape Town lifestyle. Should be back in time for summer again !

Barry Bolton

Nick Barker recalls a game played in Paarl in 1985.

I'm sure the match was at the Prison in Paarl, I remember Barry Bolton refusing to play because it was so hot (and they had cheap beer) Barry got so drunk and dived through a hedge as what he use to call a crowd pleaser. the only problem was a a wall on the other side of the hedge which some what halted Barry's progress. Undeterred he had another charge with a greater trajectory again only to find that the bowling green on the other side was about 10 feet lower than the take off point.
If my memory serves me well we ran in a cricket score in 40c heat.

England Old Crocks

It has been learnt from a reliable source who will remain nameless.....it was Andy Leeburn, that Dean Guidera the Irish ex Copper who played wing for the Buccs for a season , was selected for England Old Crocks at the World Cup !

Biggles and CP are awaiting their 6 nations call up !

Bionic Limb Club

George Dore joins the bionic limb club having just recently had a knee replaced. He joins the elite squad of Kevin Tucker - knee replacement, Neil Harrisson - Hip Replacement and Biggles -Hip Replacement.

Marriages

Ken Long married in Cape Town on 5th March 2007.

John Hunter married in Fulham London on 29th July 2007.

We are happy to report that despite searching the parking lot at Kelvin Grove unsuccessfully for his car for hours after the 40th Anniversary dinner, Greg Cooper eventually found it parked at home in his driveway........where he had left it !

On a similar note... Biggles came home rat arsed one evening and having parked his car perfectly in his driveway went off to bed. In the morning there was pandemonium in the Ransom household as Biggles ventured outside to find his car missing. A quick call to the police and they were round taking a description of his car. Within a minute of leaving they had reported finding his car.....parked perfectly in his neighbours driveway !

Was heard to say by Howard Griffiths (scrumhalf) before a game " thank God I had my car last night...I was too drunk to walk " !

Shaun Thompson ex Villagers First Team lock in 80's reminiscing over the Hamiltons versus Villagers games " I can never remember playing any games against Hamiltons as in every game at the first lineout, Wes Little would hit me !! "

Kevin Griffin - " Cape Towns getting to be a dangerous place....Only yesterday I was in Pick n Pay and punched somebody in the face "
